Samantha's 6th Birthday

In our family we don't let the girls have a big blow out birthday party every year. We try to do a party every couple of years. Anyways, this year Samantha picked Scallywag Tag. Scallywag Tag is an indoor Lazar tag and game house. The girls have wanted to go for a while, but we just haven't had the time. Samantha invited a few friends from school but it was mainly family. She had a blast and the night went so supper fast. The staff was very organized and the food was good. A very low stress birthday party.

Happy Birthday Samantha!

Harvest Fest and Temple Trip

This year my family decided to be cowboys and cowgirls for Halloween. So on Saturday we dressed up in our costumes for Harvest Festival at the church. The girls were so stinking cute and baby Bradley was a good sport for wearing his little mustache. He wore it until it stopped being sticky from all of his slobber, then off it came. Lance looked the best, but now he is stuck with a foo man chew until Halloween night.

Lance and I were able to go to The Temple on Thursday night. President and Sister Beck made the whole night possible. It was a very nice evening even though the traffic was just horrible to and from Louisville. This was our first temple trip together. Happy day!

Old West Fest

All the adult boys took turns throwing hatchets at a target.

The kids each hammered their names into a leather bracelet.

Reuben was picked out of the crowd to stand on top of the guy laying on a bed of nails. Ouch!

My family went to the Old West Festival last weekend. The kids really enjoyed spending time together and acting like cowboys. So we have also settled into our costume idea for this Halloween. We will be cowboys!!!

The Cincinnati ZOO

Every year Phototype has a picnic for all of its employees and their families at the Cincinnati Zoo. Even though it was a little chilly on Saturday (October 1) we stayed until they closed.

The picture above is just awful. Samantha did not want Laney to sit on the Rhino with her so she kept pushing Laney with her body. Laney's leg was getting impaled by the Rhino's horn. At first she was laughing, but the laughing quickly turned to crying.

Laney and Samantha had a blast spending the day with Dwight's girls. Dwight works with Lance at Phototype in their Plate Department.

Laney dressed for the her visit at the zoo. Jared and Megan were also with us. They were a lot of help with the baby. We had a really good time. Thanks to Phototype!!!

The little House - Update

Optimism - Most people think that Lance and I are very optimistic and positive people. Truth be told we have good days and bad days, but more good days than bad, but in general we are both very positive people. We are in a big old mess with the little house...we now have a lawsuit against the previous owners and they have a lawsuit against their insurance company (bad faith claim) and the two real estate agents. I am sure it is going to take months to years to get everything straightened out. So in the mean time we are dreaming of what will become of our property. What we will do with the land and the house. How we will make it feel like our home. We both have so many ideas.

The current plan is to have Dave (married to Natalee, Lance's cousin) come out with his earth moving equipment and cut several paths through the woods for our ATV. Lance also wants a pond some place on the property so we were thinking about digging a pond sometime this winter. The only issue is we do not know what is going to happen to the little house. We are trying our best to stay away from it. It still smells of oil. We did have the septic system pumped by an oil clean up crew. They had to take 250 gallons of goo out of the septic system. Then we had the normal septic people come out and flush the rest of the system. It obviously had not been flushed in many years. Even though the previous owners said they just flushed it. It is sad to see all of the 100+ year old trees dieing or dead in the path of the oil spill. What a sad mess.

We are ALL so anxious to start living on the property. The girls are excited to be settled and to finally get the dog we promised them. Lance is excited to start working on some new projects. I am excited to decorate my new house and start raising chickens. I really enjoy owning a home and decorating home is a blast. I love coming up with ways to express my creativity.

I recently found this blog The Vintage Farmhouse http://www.thevintagefarmhouse.com/2011/10/you-dont-have-to-spend-lot.html and I love her style. She has great ideas and she spends very little money. That is always my goal. During the summer I love going to auctions, yard sales and flea markets. I love old stuff. It is fun to make old stuff new again by painting or re-purposing. I love those before and after shots and the immediate gratification from just a little elbow grease.
